Manual of Rural Practice embedded as a Knowledge Base in Praxis EMR by Clayton L. Reynolds MD CM
Reynolds Quantum Medicine is a Canadian based medical company that offers software extensions for Praxis EMR users (embedded medical textbooks, Knowledge Bases and Clinical Practice Guidelines) and a Diagnostics Service for healthcare professionals and patients.
This Knowledge Base will provide you with practical approaches to many of the procedures that a rural
doctor may be called upon to undertake. The paperbased
textbook drew on the acclaimed Occasional
Procedure series published by the Canadian Journal of Rural Medicine. Its material has been converted
to the electronic medical record format by Dr Clayton L Reynolds, who has been a beta tester and content
developer with Praxis EMR since 1992.
The original text was written by experienced rural doctors for both learners and practicing physicians. The
hard cover book occupied 257 pages, with over 320 illustrations that provided stepbystep
instructions in
performing the procedures. The writing reflects the "rural doctor" background of each of the authors. All
the procedures are within the skill set of rural physicians.
More than 40 procedures, in the fields of anaesthesia, obstetrics, trauma, cardiac and others, plus more
than 300 Figures, Tables and chapterspecific
References, have now been embedded in Praxis EMR,
using concept processor technology and Knowledge Base theory.
After a little time spent learning how the text is displayed within the SOAP system, the user will be able to "read" the material as it is in the textbook and instantly convert it to the record of an "Office Visit". This saves
considerable time in constructing the record of a type of case that may infrequently be encountered.

The three R’s of Health Care Quality"
Clayton L. Reynolds MD - Canadian Healthcare Technology
[NOTE FROM PRAXIS: We believe that in addition to Reminder, Record, and Review, there may be a fourth "R" in this equation: "Response": A doctor may believe that he/she has a good reason for not following a certain norm, and perhaps he or she may be right. In any case, the transmission of this Response to the maker of the practice guideline would enable the guidelines to be improved, therefore benefiting us all.]
