PQRS

What is PQRS?

Formerly known as the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI), the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) is a government program that offers financial incentives to providers who report clinical data on specific quality measures. The program is mandated by federal legislation and managed by Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). PQRS requires no sign-up or pre-registration and is open to all medical practitioners who provide services under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

Practitioners must report data from a minimum of three quality measures targeting specific patient groups in order to receive incentive payments. Starting in 2015, CMS will begin to apply payment adjustments to physicians who do not report adequate data.

Praxis and PQRS

Praxis makes reporting to PQRS easy and automatic. Using powerful Praxis clinical practice guidelines (CPGS), physicians can build customized alerts around any quality measure, then query their results and produce reports. Praxis gives you the assurance of knowing you are completing quality measures at the point of care, for every encounter, every time. Even better, your CPGs can be changed or customized instantly at any time- no waiting for a new template to be built!

Only Praxis allows you to report to PQRS your way- you choose the quality measures that are most appropriate for your practice, you implement and manage the appropriate CPGs, and you run the queries. Praxis lets you practice better quality medicine in your own words.

How do I participate?

The CMS website has detailed information about how to participate in PQRS, as well as informational material for each step of the process. To get started:

  1. Determine if you are eligible
See the List of Eligible Professionals on the CMS website.

  2. Choose the reporting method that is the best fit for your practice: each method has its own requirements and quality measures. You can choose from the following:
    • Claims-based
    • Registry-based
    • Qualified EHR
    • Group Practice Reporting Option (GPRO)

  3. Determine the quality measures you will report based on your chosen reporting method, then implement them using Praxis practice guidelines and agents.

  4. Generate your report using the Praxis Query Engine
